For five days, the Gárdonyi Days celebrate the life and work of one of Eger’s best known writers with a varied selection of cultural programmes. Throughout the event, music, literature, history and the special atmosphere of the city come together.
The programmes take place at several locations across Eger. Well known performers give concerts in Dobó István Square, while exhibitions, unusual guided tours and events inspired by the writer’s works offer meaningful experiences at the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House.
Costumed city walks and a special Gárdonyi character appearing in the city centre add even more colour to the event. Admission to every programme is free of charge.

The Gárdonyi Days are much more than a commemoration of the writer’s works. The event offers an opportunity to experience Eger’s history, cultural heritage and lively summer atmosphere as part of one varied programme.

Concerts in Dobó Square
During the evenings of the festival, performers including HOBO, Budapest Bár, the Anna and the Barbies duo and Blahalouisiana will take to the stage.
Gárdonyi Fairytale Garden
Playful museum discoveries, craft activities, literary experiences and performances inspired by Gárdonyi’s stories await visitors in the garden of the Memorial House.
Special city walks
The costumed walk presents lesser known details of Gárdonyi’s life in Eger while allowing participants to discover the historic city centre from a new perspective.

Literary experiences in Gárdonyi’s former home
The Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House and its garden form one of the most special locations of the event. In the peaceful and inspiring surroundings once created by the writer, exhibitions, unusual guided tours and playful discovery programmes bring Gárdonyi’s world to life.
Visitors can also encounter rarely displayed manuscripts, sources connected to historical novels and lesser known details of the writer’s creative life. Literary and musical performances present the atmosphere of his well known works in a new form.
